KING TUT: The Exhibition

Ten years in the making, from the artisans of the Pharaonic Village in Giza, Egypt and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, this dazzling collection of Tutankhamun’s legendary treasures recreates the richest archaeological find of all time. While the experience of seeing the original artifacts is unsurpassable, the sheer number of replicas in KING TUT: The Exhibition the Treasures of His Tomb collection far exceeds the number of original objects from the tomb which have been allowed to leave the Egyptian Museum for view abroad.

Elegantly displayed on pedestals of simulated Egyptian granite, the artifacts are grouped in 5 chambers according to aspects of the pharaoh’s life: an Introductory hall, the hall of the Discovery, the Private Pharaoh, the Public Pharaoh, and the Sacred Burial. This spellbinding exhibition is accompanied by a haunting score of ambient music, especially composed to evoke the timeless mystery of the ancient tomb. Along with associated artifacts from the period surrounding Tutankhamun’s reign reconstruct both the historic discovery of the tomb by Howard Carter and the life and times of Egypt’s celebrated boy king.

The exhibit also includes:

Part historic journey and part forensic adventure, Egypt: Secrets of the Mummies follows researchers and explorers as they piece together the archeological and genetic clues of Egyptian mummies.  These relics of the past create a window into the fascinating and mysterious world of the pharaohs.  In addition to increasing our understanding of the culture, religion, medicine, and daily life of the Egyptians thousands of years ago, scientists today are reconstructing mummy DNA to gain insight into modern human genetics and to advance medical treatments.  To unwrap the secrets of the pharaohs is to perhaps glimpse the future of our own civilization.
